Payment Error Guide:
Error code and description | What it means | Suggested troubleshooting |
Insufficient_funds "Your card doesn't have enough available balance to complete this payment." | Your card doesn't currently have enough available balance or credit to cover the full amount shown at checkout. | 1. Confirm that your available balance is enough to cover the full amount shown at checkout.
Check for "pending/held" funds in your banking app that may be reducing your available balance.
2. Add funds, or ask your bank to raise your limit. Try a different card.
|
do_not_honor, generic_decline, card_declined, try_again_later "Your card was declined. Please try again or use a different payment method." | Your bank blocked the payment without giving a specific reason. This is almost always an automatic fraud/security filter on the bank's side, not a problem with your card itself. | 1. Wait a few minutes, then try again.
Call your bank and ask them to authorize payments to this merchant for an international online subscription.
2. Check your banking app for a push notification or toggle to approve the charge.
Try a different card.
|
Transaction_not_allowed "This transaction type is not allowed on your card." | Your card is active, but has settings that block this specific kind of purchase usually online, international, or recurring/subscription charges. | 1. In your banking app, enable "Online/E-commerce" and "International transactions" for the card. Ask your bank to lift any block on recurring or subscription merchants. 2. Try a different card without these restrictions. |
Invalid_account ”There's a problem with your card or the account it's linked to." | Your card issuer considers the card, or the account behind it, invalid or unusable right now. | 1. Contact your card issuer to confirm the card and linked account are active and working correctly. 2. Try a different card if the issue can't be resolved quickly. |
Incorrect_number "The card number you entered doesn't look right." | The card number entered doesn't match a valid card, usually a typo or an old, saved number. | 1. Re-enter the number carefully (turn off autofill). 2. Double-check you're using your current card, not one that's been replaced. 3. Try a different card. |
incorrect_cvc, invalid_cvc "The security code (CVC/CVV) you entered is incorrect." | The 3-digit (or 4-digit for Amex) security code entered doesn't match what your bank has on file. | 1. Re-enter the code from the back of your card (front, for Amex). 2. Make sure you're using the code from the correct card. Try again. |
Expired_card "This card has expired." | The expiration date on file has already passed, so the card is no longer valid for payment. | 1. Check the expiration date printed on your card. 2. Update your payment method with a current, unexpired card.
|
authentication_required, payment_intent_authentication_failure "This payment needs extra verification from your bank to continue." | Your bank requires an extra security step, a one-time code, an approval in your banking app, or FaceID/fingerprint,
to confirm it's really you. This error means that step wasn't completed.
| 1. Try the payment again and keep the verification window open until it finishes. 2. Watch for a code, prompt, or push notification from your bank's app and confirm it. 3. If the window closes or times out, start the payment again from the beginning. |
Card_velocity_exceeded "You've reached a spending or usage limit set by your card issuer." | Your bank limits how much can be charged at once or how many payment attempts can be made within a short period. This payment or repeated attempts may have exceeded that limit, even if your card is active. | 1. Stop retrying right away, repeated attempts make the block worse. 2. Call your bank to raise or reset your transaction limit and confirm this merchant. 3. Wait about 24 hours and try again. 4. Try a different card. |
lost_card, stolen_card, pickup_card, restricted_card "This card can't be used for this payment." | Your card issuer has flagged this specific card and blocked it from being used. You can’t use this card to purchase this subscription again. | 1. Contact your card issuer directly, they can tell you why the card was blocked. 2. Add a different, active card to complete your payment. |
Processing_error "Something went wrong while processing your card. Please try again." | A temporary technical issue occurred while your bank or the payment network processed the charge. It isn't related to your card details being wrong. | 1. Wait a few minutes and try again, this is usually temporary. 2. If it keeps happening, try a different card or payment method. |
